Global Electronics Giant Catering to African Needs

NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov 21, 2011) - The growth experienced by Samsung Africa has been nothing short of phenomenal. The statistic which represents this best is the sharp surge in the number of employees. In just one year, staff numbers have doubled to over 1,000, which includes 650 full time workers, field representatives and marketers.

"It comes as a result of the growth and progressive steps we have taken -- being committed to the whole of Africa," states George Ferreira, Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Samsung Africa.

The region's head office is situated in Sandton, Johannesburg, with the South Africa offices based in the building next door. Ferreira states that Samsung is the first consumer electronics company to base its African headquarters actually in the continent, reiterating the South Korean company's slogan 'Built for Africa'.

Samsung has placed great focus on its 'Built for Africa' initiative. This involves looking at global products and adapting them to best suit African conditions. The company's first solar powered netbook was released in Africa, as were 'surge safe' televisions which can handle fluctuations of power without having their performance affected, and which can operate on minimal energy.
