Global Leadership Adventures Launches OneFuture Symposium

Tomorrow's Leaders, Uniting Today: OneFuture Symposium to Join Young Leaders in Costa Rica

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 6, 2012) - Global Leadership Adventures is set to launch the OneFuture Symposium in the summer of 2012. The international community service organization has offered teen volunteer abroad and volunteer abroad programs since 2004, but the OneFuture Symposium will be Global Leadership Adventures' first international leadership conference for teens passionate about international affairs.

"More than just a conference," said Andrew Motiwalla, co-founder of the organization, "It's the first step in starting an international career and building a global network." The OneFuture Symposium will bring together the next generation of young leaders to learn about global issues, brainstorm solutions and make connections with other teenagers who aspire to change the world."

The symposium, which is being held at EARTH University in Limon, Costa Rica, is scheduled from July 28 to August 4, 2012. Participating students will learn about "fair trade" through harvesting coffee on a real Costa Rican farm. They will also examine a Rainforest Alliance certified farm by comparing it to a conventional banana farm in the Limon area.

"Sustainability in a Global World" will serve as the theme of the symposium. Students will hear from Whole Foods and United Nations representatives about organic banana purchasing and sustainable agriculture. Hands-on experiences will serve to spark debates about how ecotourism affects environmental sustainability.

The goal of the symposium is to train high school students to be global leaders. "We want them to think not just about their own country, but about the world at large," says Mike Shangkuan of Global Leadership Adventures.

"The OneFuture Symposium will not only excite teens, but teach them to think critically about the issues facing today's global world," says Motiwalla of GLA. Students will leave the symposium with a deeper understanding of current issues and with the ability to explore their own potential as active, engaged global leaders.
