VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 4, 2014) - Local technology giant, Global Relay, in partnership with Talia Jevan Properties and Colliers International are pleased to announce the resigning of the company's lease at 220 Cambie Street. The news marks Global Relay as the biggest office lease to ever be completed in Gastown - the original downtown of Vancouver and now a huge draw for boutique fashion shops, design and furniture stores, popular restaurants and professional and technology companies.
Growing in the building from their initial 2,500 square feet in 2005 to a new lease of 62,000 square feet - a 2,500 per cent growth in space in 9 years - Global Relay is now the largest office tenant in Gastown, which was named as the fourth-most-stylish neighborhood in the world in 2012 by Complex, a New York fashion magazine.
The lease renewal, facilitated by Colliers International, marks the success of a home-grown company seeing great accolades in Vancouver at a time when US-based names are garnering much attention for their movement into the city. This is in addition to the company's dedication to their employees and commitment to the area. Global Relay has received extensive recognition over the years - including BCBusiness Magazine's Best Companies to Work For and Canada's Top Employers For Young People. The company's lasting commitment to the area includes a one-million dollar, five year sponsorship of the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix bike race.
For Global Relay, real estate is one of the most important parts of ensuring the business has a home to grow and where the company's positive relationship with their landlord at Talia Jevan Properties was integral to facilitating this. "Global Relay's business growth would not have been possible had it not been for a real partnership approach with our landlord, Harmel Rayat at Talia Jevan Properties," shares Kelvin Ng of Global Relay. "Harmel has worked alongside us to ensure our business has had a place to grow when we have needed it. He has accommodated our progress in the building over ten times in nine years. There are very few landlords that would take such a proactive partnership approach and we're very grateful for that."
Harmel Rayat at Talia Jevan Properties believes strongly in the importance of fostering good relationships with tenants, especially those operating locally. "We're committed to doing our part to see these companies achieve success and to ensure they have the room to do so within our city's walls. Global Relay came to us because of the high quality of our property, its premier location and the culture in Gastown - they feel the building reflects their personality - and so we made it a priority to help them to continue to expand their team in a place that they consider home".
"Global Relay is one of Vancouver's biggest success stories and their space has allowed them a competitive advantage over others looking to hire locally," says Colin Scarlett, senior vice president of Colliers International, who facilitated the renewal acting on behalf of Global Relay. "With an amazing rooftop patio looking out over downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains, high ceilings, quintessential brick and timber beams and the best in-house chef in the city making hot meals for the staff, their culture and ability to recruit/retain talent is unmatched in Vancouver. It's time we recognized that it's not just the US companies who are making noise in Vancouver."
