Global Upside Sponsors City Year Efforts in San Jose

Educational Nonprofit Supports Schools in Underprivileged Areas

LOS ALTOS, CA--(Marketwired - May 15, 2013) - Global Upside, Inc. has become a Gold Sponsor of City Year's Starry Starry Night 2013, to support its efforts to help under-performing students in the elementary and middle schools of San Jose, California. Global Upside CEO Ragu Bhargava has joined the Event Committee for Starry Starry Night, City Year's annual Silicon Valley gala which takes place on May 22nd.

City Year is a nonprofit organization that sends young volunteers, aged between 17 and 24, into schools where there are high numbers of children at risk of dropping out. Founded in 1988, City Year has grown steadily and is now active in 24 urban communities in the US and South Africa. Last year, 54 City Year Corps Members gave 98,000 hours of service in San Jose schools, and 100% of teachers in those schools said the academic performance of targeted school children improved as a result of work by the City Year Corps Members.

Global Upside is supporting City Year as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program. The Global Upside CSR program focuses on activities supporting education and young people. Global Upside is committed to giving back to the communities where it is active. Global Upside is headquartered in Los Altos, California, with many clients in San Jose and the San Francisco Bay Area.

"We are delighted that Global Upside has joined our corporate sponsors here in the San Jose area," said Sharon Matthews, chairwoman of the board, City Year San Jose, "100% of our effort is focused on making a difference for underprivileged at-risk children in some of the most under-resourced school districts in California, and the support of companies like Global Upside helps make that work possible and is greatly appreciated by us."

"In today's competitive world, education is one of the most important tools we have to help our young people grow up to live rich, fulfilling lives," commented Global Upside CEO Ragu Bhargava. "City Year is an outstanding organization clearly making a difference, not only for thousands of youth in at-risk areas of our community, but also for the volunteers who join the City Year Corps and perform a service that helps others and helps themselves too. We are delighted to support City Year."
