November 04, 2015 08:00 ET to Sponsor 8th Annual "Inside China Automotive Conference" by University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute Automotive Futures Group

ANN ARBOR, MI--(Marketwired - November 04, 2015) - The 8th annual "Inside China: Understanding China's Current and Future Automotive Industry" conference will take place November 11 at the University of Michigan. The conference will feature insights by manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, and U-M experts on the current and future prospects for the automotive industry in China. The Chinese market continues to be the largest automotive market in the world despite a recent slowdown. As the Chinese government tries to balance the explosive growth of its economy with the need to create a sustainable environment, it continues to experiment with policies that it hopes will meet both of these needs.

Confirmed speakers include: Yingzi Su, GM China economist, Jacob George, JD Power Chinese quality expert, Michael Dunne, Chinese New Energy vehicle expert, Loren Brandt, Chinese state-owned enterprise (SOE) expert, Michael Thomas, Chinese automotive engineering service firm expert, and Yan Zhou, Chinese clean vehicle collaborative project expert. They discuss issues related to the industry including industry structure, assessments of government automotive policies related to vehicle sales and environmental impact, changes in market structure, multi-national research consortiums focused on clean energy, and the role of foreign manufacturers and suppliers in the industry, as well as future industry trends.

Some of the key questions to be addressed include: How are state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the auto sector operating? How is the government developing capabilities in its companies? How do Chinese consumers value vehicle quality compared to US consumers? What government policies are in place to support vehicle sales that will lead to a more sustainable environment? What path is the government taking to reach its goals? What support is the government providing for technology research and development in the areas of clean energy? How are automotive suppliers, foreign and domestic, supporting technology and environmental goals? What are the current consumer trends in vehicle purchasing, and what are some of the potential future buying patterns?

The conference will be moderated by Bruce Belzowski, Managing Director, Automotive Futures, UM Transportation Research Institute. The conference is sponsored by University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, University of Michigan Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, Argonne National Labs, BorgWarner Inc., Bosch Corporation, Denso Corporation,, ITS America, Oracle Corporation, and Valeo Corporation.
