GlobalFit Executives to Meet With Congressional Leaders

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 17, 2005 -- GlobalFit, the nation's leading provider of employee and group fitness benefits, announced today that several of its top executives will head to Washington, D.C. this week to support the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association's (IHRSA) campaign to secure passage of a law that would expand access to fitness club memberships. They'll participate in IHRSA's 3rd Annual Legislative Summit.

"The Workforce Health Improvement Program (WHIP) Act would allow for the favorable tax treatment of the cost of fitness club memberships provided as an employee benefit," said Michael Cassady, GlobalFit President and CEO. "Current law requires employees to pay income tax on fitness club benefits unless the club is located at the employer's work site. Passage of the WHIP Act (H.R.1634, S.772) would ensure that the all American employees would receive this benefit whether they exercise in-house or at one of the thousands of clubs nationwide."

Over the last several months, GlobalFit has enlisted the aid of its clients -- more than 1,200 of the nation's top employers and insurers representing about 50 million potential fitness club members -- as well as its nationwide network of more than 1,500 fitness clubs to help IHRSA secure the WHIP Act's passage.

"We have had tremendous support from clients," said Cassady. "Hits to our website have been at an all-time high. Our clients have used our links to IHRSA's pre-written letters to members of Congress to make their voices heard in support of the WHIP Act. Now we're heading to Washington to ensure that Congress knows how many of us want to see the WHIP Act become law."

IHRSA is a not-for-profit trade association representing health and fitness facilities, gyms, spas, sports clubs and suppliers worldwide. IHRSA is committed to taking a leadership role in advancing physical activity, which is critical to America's health and the battle against obesity and disease. IHRSA supports smart national initiatives to promote more active lifestyles and is working to pass laws that will help affect societal changes toward a more fit America.
