GM Canada August 2009 Sales Results

(Data is not adjusted for the difference in selling days; August 2009 had 25 selling days vs. August 2008 with 26 selling days)

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2009) - For August, GM Canada regained its monthly sales leadership position, selling more vehicles than any competitor in Canada, delivering 23,135 vehicles. GM Canada also posted an impressive 15.1 per cent improvement over July sales. Calendar year-to-date, GM continues to be Canada's automotive sales leader.

"Rebuilding our inventory levels in August, has improved our sales performance," says Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice-president of sales, service and marketing. Comeau added, "The new and recently launched GM cars and trucks are being very well received and we are positioned to capitalize on the growing market momentum. GM's four core brands; Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC out-paced the industry's August sales which were down 4.9 per cent with only a minimal sales decline of 1.6 per cent. Customers can anticipate many new exciting models with high quality and fuel efficiency, arriving at dealerships over the next months including the new Canadian built 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, the 2010 Buick Allure, and the highly-anticipated 2010 Cadillac SRX and CTS Sport Wagon.

August Sales Highlights

- Sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra were up 38.3% over last August - making it the best August on record and the best sales month in over a decade.

- The all new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox which delivers the best highway fuel consumption of any vehicle in its segment recorded strong initial sales. As a result, GM is reinstating the third shift at CAMI, in Ingersoll where the next generation Chevrolet Equinox and the all new GMC Terrain are built.

- Sales momentum continues for the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and the Oshawa Plant has scheduled over-time at least through October to meet growing customer demand.
