GM Welcomes Federal Supports to Increase the Availability of Green E85 Ethanol Bio-Fuel to Canadians

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2008) - General Motors of Canada welcomes the federal budget measures announced today to help increase the availability of green E85 ethanol bio-fuel at fuel stations across Canada. General Motors Canada currently offers 12 different E85 Ethanol flexible fuel model choices (vehicles that can seamlessly run on fuel containing up to 85% ethanol or regular gasoline). According to Natural Resources Canada's GHGenius study, net CO2 emissions from vehicles using E85 Ethanol Bio-fuels are 47-55% lower than using regular gasoline.

"This is good news for consumers interested in new, affordable green fueling alternatives that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions" said David Paterson, vice president corporate and environmental activities for General Motors of Canada. "We applaud these steps to help expand the availability of E85 in Canada because it offers another very practical and affordable way for Canadian drivers to literally cut their net vehicle CO2 emissions in half."

"Canada's independent fuel retailers have been very interested in exploring opportunities to provide their customers with new E85 fuel options. These measures will assist them to move in the direction of other leading ethanol jurisdictions that have achieved much wider access to renewable E85 Ethanol Bio-Fuel at competitive prices", said Jane Savage, President and CEO of the Canadian Independent Petroleum Marketers Association.

GM is a world leader in the development of E85 Flex Fuel vehicles. GM's new flex fuel models, like the Oshawa built Chevrolet Impala, can be identified by a Flexible Fuel nameplate and a yellow gas cap. For a complete list of E85 Flex Fuel vehicles, go to:
