GoHealth Hosts Teens From Erie Neighborhood House for Teen Tech Day

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Jun 4, 2012) - GoHealthInsurance.com, a Chicago-based technology company, partners with Erie Neighborhood House to host 15 teens for a Teen Tech Day on June 27, 2012.

"We wanted to expand our involvement within the Chicago community. What better way to utilize our skill sets than to hold a Teen Tech Day?" said Shane Cruz, Vice President of Technology at GoHealth. "Not only will our employees have an opportunity to teach what they know -- they will have fun doing it."

During Teen Tech Day, fifteen of Erie House's teens will get a taste for the software development lifecycle by gathering requirements, developing and testing a website. By the end of the day, the students will put what they've learned to use and present the websites they have created to their peers.

"These high school students are showing the initiative to learn and grow by attending the first Teen Tech Day at GoHealth. This program gives students the opportunity to get a glimpse of the technology industry and start looking into future career options," said Maria Muñoz, Academic Programs Coordinator at Erie House.

The teens will work in small teams to learn how to:

• Utilize business analysis techniques to gather customer requirements
• Document requirements for developer use
• Translate business requirements into technical features
• Edit, troubleshoot and add to existing HTML code
• Build and execute test scripts against functional and performance requirements

"There continues to be a growing demand for great developers in Chicago," says Cruz, "and we want to do our part to help encourage young people to learn more about technology."
