Gold Coast Tourism Rides Social Media Wave

The Gold Coast Tourist Information Centre (GCTIC) Has Launched Its Latest Campaign, Announcing It Is 'Going Social', With the Goal of Bringing More Holiday Makers to the Gold Coast

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2011) - Facebook and Twitter sites have been released by the GCTIC to provide prospective tourists with a simple platform to share information about holidaying on the Gold Coast.

CEO Paul Whitehead says the campaign is designed not only to share valuable Gold Coast accommodation information, but to build public awareness on affordable travel to the area.

Mr Whitehead says, "The Gold Coast tourism industry has proven to be one of the most innovative, flexible and affordable in Australia and is undoubtedly one of the most desirable holiday destinations in the world.

"We are aiming to build on this reputation and reach out to new niche markets by tapping into social networks online. In a time when we are competing for the tourist dollar, this is a big step in the right direction," he said.

The social networking sites will host a range of information such as travel arrangement information for all regions, promotions at Coolangatta, Surfer's Paradise, Broadbeach hotels, and seasonal promotions available online through the Gold Coast Tourist Information Centre. Topics covered will include travel tips, event updates, photos and information on local businesses.

Followers are encouraged to post comments, upload photos and contribute to discussions posted by others.
