GoldCare Congratulates Children's Treatment Network of Simcoe York on Their ITAC Ingenious Award Win for Innovative Use of Information Technology

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 22, 2011) - GoldCare, the market leader in healthcare management software, is proud to congratulate their client, Children's Treatment Network of Simcoe York, on receiving the inaugural 2011 Ingenious Award. The award, presented by ITAC (Information Technology Association of Canada), recognizes the innovative use of information technology to address some of the most important social and economic challenges facing Canada.

This national award honours the Children's Treatment Network's groundbreaking development and implementation of a shared electronic client record and Single Plan of Care approach, the first integrated care model of its kind in Canada. This model links over 40 interdisciplinary service providers and partners from multiple sectors and ministries who provide services to children with multiple special needs. It provides professionals from healthcare, education, recreation, social and community service agencies with the essential tools to work together, including collaborative goal setting, care planning, service delivery and outcome measurement.

Since its implementation, the Single Plan of Care approach has produced some remarkable results: families are reporting improved outcomes and a higher quality of life, referrals to services are occurring faster, and wait times for some services have been reduced. By 2015, it is expected that approximately 4,000 children with multiple special needs living in Simcoe County and York Region (Ontario) and their families will benefit from this integrated approach. The success of this project has resulted in the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services funding 12 additional children's treatment centres across Ontario to implement the same electronic client record.

Both the Single Plan of Care and shared electronic client record are facilitated through GoldCare, which provides the healthcare information management platform for the Children's Treatment Network and its partners. Client records are collectively maintained in the secure GoldCare database. With the proper consents, a child's electronic record is accessible to all team members for managing every stage and interaction of the child's care; from intake and assessment, to care planning and service delivery, through to outcome reporting. The Children's Treatment Network's implementation of GoldCare is an attainable example of information technology supporting large-scale system change for the betterment of children's care.

"We are thrilled to receive this award as a tribute to our vision of providing every child with multiple special needs and their family with a single coordinated care plan built on the foundation of a shared electronic client record, which has been created thanks to our ongoing partnership with GoldCare," says Louise Paul, CEO of Children's Treatment Network of Simcoe York. "Change like this doesn't happen with the push of a button. Transforming a system and how we work together is a multi-year journey that is supported by the commitment and leadership of multiple sectors, funders and partners. This award recognizes that joint effort, and will help keep us energized and focused as we transition more children with multiple special needs to a single plan of care."

"The Children's Treatment Network's receipt of the Ingenious Award is a win for all Canadians as it demonstrates how technology can inspire innovation and drive change to achieve real results through integrated service delivery across healthcare and other sectors," says Paula Hucko, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for GoldCare. "We're extremely gratified to see the hard work, energy and dedication of the Children's Treatment Network honoured with such a worthy award. They are the epitome of positive sustainable change, and a testament to the opportunities made possible through information technology."
