Goldcorp and Candente Depart from Newfoundland

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 1, 2005) - Goldcorp Inc. (NYSE:GG)(TSX:G) ("Goldcorp") has advised Candente Resource Corp. (TSX:DNT) ("Candente") of their decision to terminate option agreements on the Staghorn and Linear Properties, held by Candente in Newfoundland. Goldcorp has also advised that they are maintaining their investment in Candente as they wish to maximize value and believe that Candente's Peruvian gold exploration projects may have excellent potential.

Candente has also decided to terminate their option on the Linear property from the Kriask Syndicate but will maintain its interest in the Staghorn Property. The Staghorn Property is considered to have potential for further exploration in light of a recent base and precious metal VMS discovery made by Messina Minerals Inc., 35 kilometres to the northeast.

Candente is actively exploring the 100% owned Canariaco copper-gold project in Peru, which is unique with respect to its significant leachable portion, low strip ratio, low elevations, good access and infrastructure, water supply and strong relationship with the local community. Drilling by Candente in 2004 defined an inferred resource at Canariaco Norte containing 1.035 billion pounds of copper and 243,000 ounces of gold. Drilling by Candente to date in 2005 has nearly tripled the surface area expression (from 14 to 38 hectares) and more than doubled the vertical extent of the grid drilled zone of copper mineralization. The copper system is still open in all directions and new copper-molybdenum showings indicate a potential extension of the system 500 metres to the northwest of grid drilling to date.

Candente is a diversified exploration company whose focus is to increase shareholder value through discovery. In addition to Canariaco, Candente has several other gold, gold-copper and silver projects in Peru. Candente's directors have individual track records in both the discovery and development of multi-million ounce gold and silver, and multi-billion pound copper deposits.
