Golden Gate Ferry Provides Extra Service to Sausalito for Amgen Tour of California -- Cycling Fans Arrive Steps From Starting Line

SAUSALITO, CA--(Marketwire - February 11, 2009) - Golden Gate Ferry is providing extra service Monday, February 16 from San Francisco to Sausalito to ensure that cycling fans can arrive in time for the 8:30 AM start of Stage Two of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling road race. Don't miss Lance or Levi as they prepare for an historic ride across the Golden Gate Bridge! This will be the first time a bike race has crossed the bridge.

On the morning of the President's Day holiday, ferry service will depart from the San Francisco Ferry Building at 7:00 AM and arrive in Sausalito at 7:30 AM The ferry service arrives just steps from the starting line of the race, which is free for all to view. Thousands of race fans are expected to line the streets along the route of the race, as the cyclists wind their way through Sausalito's renowned bayfront downtown before heading across the Golden Gate Bridge toward the Stage Two finish line in Santa Cruz later that day.

Round-trip ferry service will continue frequently throughout the day. Sausalito race organizers note that bicycles are permitted on all ferry boats and free valet bike parking will be available at the race. Additional information about Monday's ferry service may be obtained at www.goldengate.org.

Following the Race Start at 8:30 AM, spectators may enjoy the Sausalito Bike Expo and Biker Brunch in the Big Bike Tent in downtown Sausalito where the race will be broadcast live on big screen TV. Many local merchants are offering Race Day Specials, so fans are invited to stay for the day and catch a later ferry boat back to the City.

For the fourth consecutive year, Sausalito was chosen to host the Stage Start for the Tour, which attracts some of the world's top riders in a race across more than 750 miles of scenic state highways, roadways and coastline drives. Last year, the Tour drew 1.6 million spectators, setting records for a single sporting event in the State of California as well as for any cycling event ever held in the U.S. -- in addition to generating $100 million in economic growth for the state throughout the eight days of the race.
