Google I/O and Top Brands Begin Building on SCVNGR

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - May 19, 2010) -  Last week, people across the country started playing SCVNGR. This week, Google I/O and some of the biggest brands around have started building on SCVNGR. (Remember, SCVNGR is part game, part game platform.) These brands are using that second half of SCVNGR, the game engine, to build challenges at their favorite places.

Top brands have signed up to play SCVNGR, adding their own fun, quick challenges to their favorite places. New companies and organizations building on SCVNGR include the Boston Celtics, Boston Globe, Journeys, New England Patriots, The New York Times, Universal Music Canada and Warner Bros.

Google I/O will be a hotspot of SCVNGR activity, with a collection of awesome challenges at the coolest places throughout the show. Attendees of Google's largest annual event can play SCVNGR by, say, heading over to the "Hack Room" and finding six friends to spell out G-o-o-g-l-e in YMCA style. Snap a pic for three points! Or zip on over to the "Liquid Galaxy" and transport yourself to 48.85°N, 2.29°W. Where are you? Got it? 2 points!

Players compete against friends and colleagues to rise up a real-time leaderboard, with the winner getting a sweet reward -- five free tickets to the 2011 Google I/O show!

To play, grab the free SCVNGR app at either the Android Market or Apple App Store.

"It's great to see such major companies get so amped about building on SCVNGR," said Seth Priebatsch, Chief Ninja of SCVNGR. "Building on SCVNGR is a dynamite way for anyone to attract, engage and reward their audience... and have a little fun at the same time!"
