Gordon F. Stovel Appointed to Board of Directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 10, 2011) - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), today announced the appointment of Gordon F. Stovel to the Foundation's Board of Directors.

"It is with great pleasure that I welcome Mr. Stovel to the CFI," said Minister Clement. "Mr. Stovel's strong business expertise, coupled with his experience serving on many medical science–related boards, makes him a valued addition to the CFI Board."

Mr. Stovel has been a Senior Financial Planning Advisor at Assante Financial Management Ltd. since 1994. He has served in various capacities on many local and provincial medical-related boards and committees, including Chair of the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan's Board of Trustees, Chair of the Board of Directors of Credit Valley Hospital, member of the YMCA of Greater Toronto's Board of Advisory Governors and member of the Board of Directors of Cancer Care Ontario. In 2007, Mr. Stovel received the Mississauga Board of Trade's Business Person of the Year Award.

Mr. Stovel holds a B.Sc. and B.A. (Hons. Econ.) from the University of North Dakota. He also earned a number of professional designations, including Registered Financial Planner, Certified Financial Planner, as well as ICD.D certification granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors.
