Goss International Simplifies SAP Performance Analysis With Tidal

Horizon™ for SAP Solutions Delivers Unique Proactive Results

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 4, 2006 -- Tidal Software, a leading provider of application scheduling and performance management software, today announced Goss International, the leading provider of web offset printing solutions, has implemented Tidal Horizon™ for SAP Solutions to simplify analysis and management of SAP® R/3. In a move to expand its product line, Goss acquired Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG's web offset printing business, enabling Goss to provide a complete print solution for all aspects of Web Offset production. As part of the integration, Goss is implementing an IT strategy for leveraging and implementing best practices across all its operations, standardizing on SAP solutions. To optimize this process, Goss has adopted Tidal Horizon for automated performance analysis of their SAP landscape.

Goss required a solution for actively monitoring their SAP landscape in support of their global operations. Goss wanted a solution that looked at all levels of the solution stack -- from server and database all the way through the SAP application layers. The team also looked to find a solution that would provide proactive monitoring, enabling the Goss team to identify problems before application users experienced performance degradation and made service desk requests. Tidal Horizon was the only solution Goss found that provided the coverage they desired and the rich automated analysis providing proactive coverage for their SAP environment.

"Most application performance solutions we looked at either monitored at the hardware or database level, but did not give us insight into the SAP application," said Mike Masters, director of global application solutions at Goss. "Tidal was the first solution we have seen to really look at the SAP application and provide performance analysis to find where the problem is occurring. No other solution we saw really took the application layer into consideration. No other solution provided the thoroughness of analysis for a proactive solution."

Goss found they were experiencing situations where the hardware was functioning properly and the database was functioning properly, yet the application was not working for the end user. Other solutions Goss tried did not detect any problem in these situations. "With Horizon's application performance analysis, we were able to see that an issue was occurring before any user called with a problem," said Masters.

Through its application performance analysis, Horizon offers specific diagnosis and detailed advice covering issues in the application, middleware, and database layers to help reduce time to repair from hours and days down to minutes. Horizon helps reduce on average the number of experts needed to diagnose any problem and its real-time monitoring helps capture problems the first time they occur. Today, Horizon includes hundreds of analysis processes, identifying thousands of possible issues. Tidal continues to update and deliver new analysis processes on an ongoing basis. "When you invest in any product like this, you want to make sure that the vendor is continuing to invest to keep expanding the capabilities inside the product," said Masters.

"Goss had the insight to quickly recognize the value of a performance analysis approach in their implementation of standardized best practices across their enterprise," said Rod Butters, senior vice president of marketing at Tidal Software. "By teaming with customers like Goss, Tidal is committed to continuing to expand the depth and breadth of Horizon's performance analytics. Our goal is to enable proactive management as a standard practice by delivering performance analysis as an automated process."
