Goulburn-Murray Water Choose AQUARIUS to Manage Rural Water Data

Australia's largest rural water authority has deployed AQUARIUS to centralize, manage, and report on all its hydrological time series data.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 4, 2013) - Aquatic Informatics Inc., a global leader in providing innovative software solutions for hydrologic data management and analysis, today announced that the Goulburn-Murray Rural Water Corporation has completed phase one of its deployment of AQUARIUS Software. Now all hydrological data can be stored, quality controlled, and analyzed using one modern platform.

Located in Tatura, Goulburn-Murray Water is the largest rural water authority in Australia delivering water services to 30,000 customers across Northern Victoria. It manages a complex business supplying water from dams, groundwater aquifers, and unregulated streams. The Water Resources unit is responsible for managing surface and groundwater resources. This involves implementing government regulations and policies for surface and groundwater, trading water shares and allocations, licensing water usage, and for making the seasonal allocation determinations for all Victorian entitlement holders.

Accurate, real-time water data is needed to effectively meet all of these responsibilities. Goulburn-Murray Water management identified that its information system environment no longer met core business requirements. As part of its ongoing business improvement strategy, it issued a request for proposal for a "State of the Art" Water Resources Information Management System Goulburn-Murray Water chose AQUARIUS.

"While our water resource information systems were suitable when developed, they were struggling to keep pace with the dynamic nature of the water industry." reported Daniel Lovell, Manager of Water Data & Systems with Goulburn-Murray Water. "Deploying AQUARIUS has allowed us to modernize our time series data management system. Now all of our critical hydrological data can be managed on one platform. We can more efficiently manage, derive, correct, and report accurate water information, enabling better and faster decisions."

With AQUARIUS, the Water Resources Division was able to meet all of these system requirements:

  • Robust archive for all corporate water quality and water quantity information;
  • Management of any time series data set, irrespective of set size or capture frequency;
  • Automatic import and export of data in multiple formats;
  • Inclusion of derived, calculated, and deemed data sets as well as directly captured data;
  • Simple and robust data validation, quality assurance, and quality flagging;
  • Storage of all appropriate metadata;
  • Storage and graphical viewing of rating curves and field gaugings;
  • Customizable graphing, data queries, and data extraction;
  • Standards-based hydrological and statistical analysis functionality, flow duration curves;
  • Simple to use navigation and filtering capabilities;
  • Provision of high quality and flexible reporting; and
  • Storage of business rules and business intelligence reporting rules.

"Australian environmental organizations are adopting and developing some of the most progressive hydrological monitoring techniques in the world. Goulburn-Murray Water is among the leaders in modernizing its rural water monitoring practices," said Ed Quilty, President and CEO of Aquatic Informatics. "Adopting the latest monitoring equipment, industry standards, and data management software is enabling the Water Resources Unit to better manage its complex portfolio of water resources to better serve the real-time water needs of various customer segments, including irrigation companies, urban water authorities, and environmental water holders. We are very pleased to welcome Goulburn-Murray Water to the growing global community of AQUARIUS customers."
