BC Coroners Service confirms identity of avalanche victim

KELOWNA - The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died in an avalanche west of Golden on Feb. 20, 2016.

He is Nicholas Joshua Roberts, aged 30, of Calgary, Alberta.

Mr. Roberts was one of a party of four who had travelled to the Quartz Creek area about 40 km west of Golden, to go snowmobiling. At about 11 a.m. on Feb. 20, a large avalanche struck, burying Mr. Roberts.

Other members of the party were able to locate Mr. Roberts shortly afterward and dig him out, but they were unable to resuscitate him.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Roberts has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
