Government of Canada Announces Contract Award to Conduct Public Consultations on Future of Quebec City Armoury

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 28, 2009) - The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, President of the Queen's Privy Council of Canada, Minister for La Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Quebec City Region, today announced a $100,000 contract award to NATIONAL Public Relations.

This contract, awarded following a competitive process, will allow NATIONAL to conduct public consultations that will contribute to a long-term solution for the site's use, as well as the development of a comprehensive plan to secure the future of this historic site.

"The Manege Militaire is an important historic treasure, and our government will listen to the residents of the Quebec City Region before determining the future of this building destroyed by a fire in 2008," said Minister Verner. "NATIONAL Public Relations will hold public consultations in May in order to present a final report including recommendations to the government by the end of Summer 2009."

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada has committed $2 million to establish a plan for the future of the Quebec City armoury. Through this investment, the government is actively creating jobs and stimulating the economy.
