Det'on Cho NUNA Joint Venture will conduct all care and maintenance activities at the Giant Mine site, including: maintaining the mine in a dewatered and environmentally compliant state, operating the effluent treatment plant, protecting the public from accidental harm and securing and protecting the property.

"Our government is committed to ensuring that the Giant Mine site is safely managed to protect the health and safety of local residents and the environment," said Minister Duncan.

"We are committed to supporting the local residents and their community by ensuring the integrity of the care and maintenance of the Giant Mine," said Minister Ambrose.

"Today's announcement is also about creating economic growth and opportunities in the north," Minister Duncan said. "The procurement process provides considerations for Aboriginal employment, sub-contracting and/or on-the-job training opportunities."
