Government of Canada Announces Funding Support for the Port Coquitlam Community Recreation Complex

Project supported by the Building Canada Fund


PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - July 29, 2015) -

The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, Minister Responsible for British Columbia and Member of Parliament for Port Moody - Westwood - Port Coquitlam, was joined today by Greg Moore, the Mayor of Port Coquitlam, to announce that the Port Coquitlam Community Recreation Complex Project has been selected for priority funding consideration under the Building Canada Fund - Major Infrastructure Component.

The new facility, which would be built in Port Coquitlam's downtown core near the West Coast Express Station, would include: three ice surfaces, an aquatic facility, a fitness studio, a youth and seniors space, a games room, a kitchen, a boardroom, four multi-purpose rooms, a Terry Fox display area and a library.

The Complex will replace and expand existing municipal facilities including the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex, the Wilson Seniors Centre and the Terry Fox Library, which are older buildings that need to be replaced.

  • The Government of Canada will provide up to $12.5 million towards the project under the Building Canada Fund - Major Infrastructure Component (BCF-MIC).
  • The City of Port Coquitlam will be responsible for funding the balance of the project, representing $82,500,000 million.
