Government of Canada Celebrates the Official Opening of the Centre Scolaire et Communautaire Francophone de Canmore

CANMORE, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 17, 2010) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Blake Richards, Member of Parliament (Wild Rose), today took part in the official opening of the Centre scolaire et communautaire francophone de Canmore.

"Our Government is a leader in supporting official-language minority communities and promoting our two official languages," said Minister Moore. "The Centre scolaire et communautaire francophone is an investment that contributes to the vitality and future of the community."

The Centre scolaire et communautaire francophone in Canmore has been built close to the educational facilities of École Notre-Dame-des-Monts. It will meet a need in Canmore's Francophone community by reflecting and promoting the community's French-language culture.

"Canmore's Francophone community will have new facilities available to it," said Mr. Richards. "With the addition of community spaces, École Notre-Dame-des-Monts is taking on a new, eagerly awaited role."

"We believe this centre will be very beneficial to Canmore's Francophone community, because it will contribute greatly to its sustainable development," said Geneviève Poulin, Vice President of the Société des parents pour l'éducation francophone de Canmore. "This meeting place will help strengthen the sense of belonging to our community and will also help share our language and our culture with all residents of the region."

Creation of the Centre has been made possible through a contribution of $664,000 from Canadian Heritage for 2008–2010 under a cooperation agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta.
