Government of Canada Funds Two Projects to Modernize Community Infrastructure in the Abitibi RCM

AMOS, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 14, 2014) - Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that two organizations in the Abitibi RCM have been granted funding for infrastructure improvements.

Totalling $92,525, this assistance has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), in the form of two non-repayable financial contributions, namely, $42,525 to the municipality of Saint-Mathieu-d'Harricana and $50,000 to the Corporation de développement socio-économique de Saint-Marc-de-Figuery.

Quick facts

  • The investment will allow the municipality of Saint-Mathieu-d'Harricana to rehabilitate and improve the recreational and collective community hall.

  • The funding to the Corporation de développement socio-économique de Saint-Marc-de-Figuery will serve to consolidate, upgrade and reconfigure facilities―interior and exterior―designed to host recreational and community activities and events.

  • These two projects will open up new opportunities for the regional construction industry by awarding contracts to companies to carry out the renovations. Moreover, the citizens in both towns will have more functional, safe and attractive leisure and community infrastructure.

Quote

"By funding these renovation and modernization projects, our Government is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities."

Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
