Government of Canada Grants $119,651 in Funding for Startup of Les Comptoirs Granit Grenier Inc.

ALBANEL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $119,651 in repayable funding for the startup of Les Comptoirs Granit Grenier Inc. With this financial assistance from the Government of Canada, a total of $388,100 will be invested in this project in the community.

Les Comptoirs Granit Grenier will specialize in the manufacture of granite kitchen and bathroom countertops for sale to the general public as well as to home building contractors and cabinet makers. A high-end product known for its durability and elegance, the granite countertop has been gaining in popularity among consumers.

"The establishment of Les Comptoirs Granit Grenier in Albanel is excellent news for Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean in that this project is sure to help diversify the local economy. Canada Economic Development believes in the importance of supporting communities hit by the forest crisis in their efforts to revitalize their economy," explained Minister of State Lebel.

The startup of Les Comptoirs Granit Grenier will result in the creation of four new jobs, two of them full-time and two part-time, in the community. The enterprise will use digitally-controlled equipment to cut curves and angles into the granite, a process that cannot be done manually. These high-quality granite products have the advantage of being well suited to uneven surfaces.
