For the hiring of a trade commissioner in energy efficiency in Shawinigan

SHAWINIGAN, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $160,000 in non-repayable funding to the Fonds de développement économique LaPrade Saint-Maurice Inc. Granted through the Community Diversification program, this financial assistance will be used to hire a trade commissioner specializing in the field of energy efficiency for a two-year term to help position the City of Shawinigan as a prime destination for new enterprises operating in this sector of the economy.

This energy efficiency expert will be responsible for promoting the services available to entrepreneurs who set up operations in Shawinigan and for guiding them with success through the various steps required to launch their business.

Canada Economic Development is committed to ensuring the vitality of communities and, to that end, allocated a budget over two years ago to support the City of Shawinigan in its economic diversification efforts. The Agency has also maintained an active presence on the City's diversification committee from the very outset. In the view of Minister of State Lebel, "today's announcement confirms that the Government of Canada is working hand-in-hand with local stakeholders to stimulate investment and promote business startups in promising sectors for the future."

The Community Diversification program is aimed at helping Quebec's regions maintain and develop their economic activity base by increasing mobilization through vision-building and the development of projects of local and regional scope.
