Government of Canada Grants $224,508 in Funding to Route des mille et une histoires inc.

DOLBEAU-MISTASSINI, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 20, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $224,508 in non-repayable funding to Route des mille et une histoires Inc. through the Community Diversification program for the acquisition of stage equipment and audiovisual materials.

"This project will enable Route des mille et une histoires to further enhance its stage shows, which already draw a great many visitors to the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region every year. It is for this reason that Canada Economic Development is pleased to support this organization in its new undertaking," explained the Minister of State.

Created in 2007 by the Dolbeau-Mistassini recreational organization Gestion Arpidôme,  Route des mille et une histoires is a tourism circuit that presents five shows on the region's history, one of them a touring production, in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Maria-Chapdelaine.

Developing and strengthening the tourism sector in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, a region still reeling from the impacts of the forestry crisis, is seen as a key way to diversify the local economy and build wealth. Route des mille et une histoires will help position the Maria-Chapdelaine RCM as a choice tourist destination within the region.
