Government of Canada Grants $30,000 in Funding for Promotion of Festival international de la chanson de Granby

GRANBY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 8, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, took the opportunity of today's official kick-off of the 42nd edition of the Festival international de la chanson de Granby to announce the awarding of $30,000 in non-repayable funding through the Community Diversification program for the festival's international promotion on European markets, notably in France, Switzerland and Belgium.

"The Festival international de la chanson de Granby is a major driving force for the economic development of the Montérégie region. Not only does this cultural event foster the growth of the region's tourism industry and thereby create jobs, it also serves to raise the visibility of Canadian artists on the European francophone music scene," stated Minister Lebel. "This funding from the Government of Canada is sure to contribute to the success of this year's Festival, whose programme line-up includes 47 shows featuring performances by more than 70 musical artists."

"This financial support from Canada Economic Development to the 42nd edition of the Festival international de la chanson de Granby is all the more valuable in that it will once again help bolster the number of European tourists visiting Montérégie and the Eastern Townships," noted the Festival's General Director, Pierre Fortier.

Every year, the Festival international de la chanson de Granby draws more than 15,000 spectators, a quarter of them from Quebec, Canada, Europe and the United States. This 2010 edition will also attract some 14 European festival directors, three journalists and eight industry professionals looking to recruit musical talent.
