Government of Canada Grants $64,408 in Funding to Festival International Nuits d'Afrique

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 26, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that the Festival International Nuits d'Afrique (FINA) will receive $64,408 in non-repayable financial assistance to set up its new site on the Parterre of Montréal's Quartier des spectacles, the new public square in the city's entertainment district.

"The Government of Canada is proud to support this initiative, which will allow the Festival International Nuits d'Afrique to benefit from all of the bustling activity around the Quartier des spectacles and thereby continue to grow over the years to come," said Minister Lebel.

The Quartier des spectacles occupies a prime location in the heart of Montréal's downtown core. Moving to the site will enable FINA, which attracts some 67,000 festival-goers annually and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, to expand its activities and draw an even greater number of visitors in the future.

In the long term, this project will serve as an additional asset to help further strengthen Montréal's reputation as a choice tourist destination and stimulate the local economy. This contribution has been granted through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
