Government of Canada Highlights Its Support for Quebec and Montreal Grands Prix Cyclistes Races

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 7, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, is taking the opportunity of today's launch of the third Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal to note that the Government of Canada granted funding for the 2011 and 2012 editions of these two cycling competitions, the across-Atlantic leg of the International Cycling Union's prestigious WorldTour races.

"The Government of Canada is demonstrating its commitment to promoting both the practice of sport and the growth of tourism, a sector which, through the jobs and spinoffs it generates, occupies a place of key importance in the Canadian economy," said Minister Lebel.

The Québec and Montréal Grands Prix cycling competitions will be held September 7 and 9, respectively. The public funds were used to support activities related to audiovisual production and commercialization of the 2011 and 2012 races in Canada and abroad. These activities included the production of advertisements, promotional material and tourism capsules on the cities of Québec and Montréal, the televised broadcast of the races and the updating of the official Web site of these sporting events.
