Government of Canada Highlights Talent of Canadian Artists During Canadian Music Week 2011

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 9, 2011) - Music is at the heart of Canadian culture, and the music industry is an integral part of our economy. Technology has transformed the way music is created, marketed, and consumed. It has brought a wonderful creative energy to this important sector by providing new opportunities to showcase Canadian talent and to enter new markets.

The strength of our music industry is never more apparent than during Canadian Music Week. And, with the music and broadcasting landscape changing constantly, Canadian Music Week provides a unique forum to help ensure that our music and recording industries continue to thrive both at home and abroad. Our Government is proud to support the industry and our artists. We also realize the need to protect our creators with effective copyright reform.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, I commend everyone involved with Canadian Music Week, and I congratulate the winners of this year's Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, Canadian Radio Music Awards, Crystal Awards, and Indie Awards.
