Government of Canada Lends Financial Support to Societe de Developpement et de Mise en Valeur de Carleton-sur-Mer

CARLETON-SUR-MER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 22, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Société de développement et de mise en valeur de Carleton-sur-Mer has been granted funding for the organization of Raid international Gaspésie in 2014. This financial assistance will be used to commercialize the new sporting event on international markets.

"By lending financial support to the Société de développement et de mise en valeur de Carleton-sur-Mer, the Government of Canada is showing that it is committed to fostering the growth of tourism, a profitable sector for the Quebec economy," said Minister Lebel.

Taking place September 11 to 14, 2014, in and around Carleton-sur-Mer, this first Raid international Gaspésie is an endurance competition that will include running, mountain biking, and canoeing or swimming along a 300-kilometre multidisciplinary course. The event is expected to draw some 100 world-class athletes and a large number of foreign journalists.

The funding from Canada Economic Development will enable Raid international Gaspésie to undertake Web-based international promotional activities and accommodate specialty media representatives covering the event.

This assistance, granted in the form of a $148,500 non-repayable financial contribution, has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Quebec Economic Development Program.
