Government of Canada Opens New Canadian Forces Health-Care Clinic at the Montfort Hospital Campus

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 19, 2009) - The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at the opening of the new Canadian Forces (CF) health-care clinic at the Montfort Hospital Campus.

Some 300 medical and dental professionals with the Department of National Defence are transferring into the new state-of-the-art facility to provide care to CF personnel located in the National Capital Region and in nearby military installations.

"The relocation of CF health-care personnel into a new clinic at the Montfort Hospital is another clear demonstration of the progressive approach taken by Canadian Forces Health Services to favour projects that invite close cooperation with community partners," said Minister MacKay.

Also present at the ceremony were senior representatives of the CF and the Montfort Hospital, including Brigadier-General Hilary Jaeger, CF Surgeon General; and Gilles Morin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Montfort Hospital.

"Our investment in the new CF clinic at the Montfort Campus will ensure the continuity of high-quality best-practice medical and dental care delivery to CF soldiers, sailors and air personnel, in and around the Ottawa area," said Brigadier-General Jaeger.

The services provided by the new CF clinic include primary care, physiotherapy, mental health care, pharmacy, preventive medicine and dental care.

The opening of the new CF clinic at the Montfort Campus marks the end of 48 years of provision of medical services at the National Defence Medical Centre on Alta Vista Drive, here in Ottawa.
