The Government of Canada Reaffirms Commitment to 2010 Winter Games Live Sites Initiative

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 16, 2008) - Community members and visitors from around the world will be able to celebrate and share the 2010 Winter Games experience thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada in the Live Sites Initiative.

Today, as the City of Vancouver announces an update of its Live Sites plan for community engagement for Vancouver residents and visitors, the Honourable David Emerson, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics, reaffirmed the Government of Canada's commitment to the Live Sites Initiative in Vancouver.

"The Government of Canada's major investment in the 2010 Winter Games includes a significant contribution to venue construction and to Live Sites here in Vancouver," said Minister Emerson. "Funding of $10 million to the Live Sites Initiative in Vancouver will allow people to participate in this once-in-a-generation experience, free of charge. I am proud to invite the world to celebrate Canada's Games in 2010."

The Government of Canada's total contribution of $20 million to the Live Sites Initiative in Vancouver and Whistler was announced in Whistler on November 7, 2007.

The Government of Canada is a major and committed partner in delivering successful, well-managed Winter Games in 2010. Total federal investment in the 2010 Winter Games is $622.1 million.
