BRIEFING DOCUMENT

The Government of Canada financially supports five upgrade projects for sports and recreation infrastructures in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region

Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) supports community organizations that undertake infrastructure projects intended to increase the vitality and buoyancy of the communities. For Quebec, the program provides a total envelope of $62.4 million.

On behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier announced today that five organizations in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region are being awarded financial assistance under the 150CIP. The amounts awarded will make it possible to refurbish or upgrade sports and recreation facilities

Proponent Contribution - Investment - Project Description
Camp de jour l'Île aux Pipianes inc. Non-repayable contribution of $18,637

Total investment of $40,545

Located in Saint-Siméon, a municipality of 1,200 residents in the RCM of Bonaventure, the Camp de jour l'Île aux Pipianes hosts children aged 4 to 15 during the summer.

The project by the organization that CED is supporting involves purchasing four new play structures (undulating sharks and psychomotor structures). With these purchases, this intergenerational gathering-place will become even more appealing. Whereas the playground gives pleasure to the young people who attend the summer camp for 8 weeks, all the facilities are accessible to the entire community during evenings and the rest of the year.
Centre de loisirs de H.A.M. inc. Non-repayable contribution of $62,861

Total investment of $130,415

The Centre des loisirs de H.A.M. is located on the Île du Havre-aux-Maisons, which is part of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine archipelago. The sports field that this organization manages is capable of accommodating around 2,000 people.

The non-repayable contribution awarded by CED will enable the organization to carry out all the work needed to refurbish the Centre's outdoor skating rink, used in winter (ice hockey) and in summer (ball hockey). The financial assistance will also be used to renovate a service building and build a beach volleyball court.
Centre sportif de Saint-François-d'Assise inc. Non-repayable contribution of $40,250

Total investment of $85,799

The Centre sportif de Saint-François-d'Assise is located in the municipality of the same name. This small municipality with 672 residents is part of the RCM of Avignon.

The financial assistance awarded by CED to the organization will enable it to carry out major drainage and stabilization work on the municipality's softball field, add shelters for the players, light the field in the evenings and put a fence around it.
Club des Aigles de St-Jules Non-repayable contribution of $21,724

Total investment of $43,448

The Club des Aigles de St-Jules is located in the municipality of Cascapédia-Saint-Jules, which is part of the RCM of Bonaventure. This municipality is focusing on maintaining and upgrading its sports infrastructures to encourage its roughly 750 residents to get exercise and to give families the opportunity to get together and develop a strong community spirit.

The assistance awarded by CED will enable the organization to install a new fence around the village's baseball field and youth centre, which will make these facilities safer. It will also be used to purchase a scoreboard and build a shelter.
OTJ Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé inc. Non-repayable contribution of $41,745

Total investment of $83,491

Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé, a municipality of 1,040 residents, is located on the southeast point of the Gaspé Peninsula in the RCM of Rocher-Percé.

With the financial contribution from CED, the Organisation des terrains de jeu (OTJ) of Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé will be able to replace the boards of the area's only outdoor skating rink, which have become damaged over time, and thereby ensure that it remains available to the public.
