Government of Canada Supports the Grands Prix cyclistes ProTour in Quebec and Montreal

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 8, 2010) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, participated in this morning's kick-off activities for the Grand Prix cycliste ProTour in the cities of Québec and Montréal, two world-class cycling competitions, which rank among the biggest events sanctioned by the Union cycliste internationale (UCI).

"The Government of Canada is proud to support this major international event, which is making its North American debut this year. These two races, to be broadcast in a significant number of countries, are a rare opportunity to enhance the renown and international profile of Québec and Montréal. These cycling competitions are sure to stimulate our tourism sector and make it a powerful engine of economic growth," said Minister of State Lebel.

Canada Economic Development has awarded a non-repayable contribution of up to $900,000 toward these events, which will be used for the production and distribution of television material, including tourism advertising clips, Web site development and the out-of-province marketing of the September 10 and 12 competitions in Québec and Montréal respectively. This project will generate tangible economic spin-offs and jobs creation.
