The Government of Canada Supports the Holding of the Transat Quebec Saint-Malo 2016 Race

The funding for the marketing and communication activities will generate considerable benefits

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 28, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Tourism is an excellent economic diversification opportunity for the country. In that vein, the Government of Canada financially supports cultural and sports-related events that bring about substantial economic benefits and media coverage in the regions where they are held.

Joël Lightbound, MP for Louis-Hébert, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that Voile internationale Québec inc., the organization responsible for organizing the ninth Transat Québec Saint-Malo race, was awarded a non-repayable contribution of $200,625.

CED's contribution will help this organization market the ocean race in Canada, French-speaking Europe, the United States and about 20 other countries. It will go toward such things as designing the promotional content for television and the Internet, purchasing advertising space and doing press relations.

"I am thrilled that CED is once again supporting the Transat Québec Saint-Malo, a prestigious yacht race that, in addition to generating considerable economic benefits, will enable tens of thousands of Canadians and foreign visitors to discover the Greater Quebec Area, its unique natural attractions, the diversity of our people, our dynamic culture and our strong sense of hospitality."

Joël Lightbound, MP for Louis-Hébert

"Few industries are experiencing the tremendous growth that is currently seen in tourism, a driver of job creation. And because of its assets and prestigious races like the Transat Québec Saint-Malo, Quebec ranks among the North American regions that are best positioned to take advantage of the rapid increase in the number of tourists."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
