Government of Canada Acknowledges Canadian Fallen Firefighters

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2010) - The Honourable John Baird, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, on behalf of the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made this statement to mark the 2010 Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish to express my sincere condolences to those who have suffered the loss of family members in the line of duty. I would also like to extend my deepest sympathies to the colleagues of the fallen, especially those who worked with the nine firefighters who died while in active duty and who are honoured here today. Canadians everywhere share your sorrow.

This annual memorial event organized by the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation reminds us of the importance of firefighters serving in Canada and around the world, and leads us to reflect on their courage as they perform their duties. It is through the courage and sacrifice of firefighters and all first responders, that the safety and security of Canadians is assured.

The leading role of firefighters and other first responders in protecting our citizens demands that we commend their bravery and acknowledge their part in making our communities safer."
