Claude Joli-Coeur appointed as new Government Film Commissioner and Chair


GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Dec. 2, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Claude Joli-Coeur as Government Film Commissioner and Chair of the National Film Board (NFB) for a term of five years, effective November 27, 2014.

  • Mr. Joli-Coeur has been Interim Government Film Commissioner and Chair of the NFB since January 1, 2014. He previously held this position from December 2006 to June 2007.
  • Mr. Joli-Coeur joined the NFB in October 2003 as Director, Business Affairs and Legal Services, and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. He has been Assistant Commissioner of the NFB since June 2007.
  • A specialist in entertainment law and international co-production, Mr. Joli-Coeur has participated in numerous international co-production commissions between Canada and European countries such as France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
  • As a film producer and distributor, the National Film Board of Canada creates social-issue documentaries, auteur animation, alternative drama, and digital content that provide Canada and the world with a unique Canadian perspective.
