Government of Canada Announces Reappointment to CMHC


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 17, 2011) - The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), announced today the reappointment of Karen Kinsley as President and Chief Executive Officer of CMHC for a two-year term.

Karen Kinsley, a Chartered Accountant, was first appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of CMHC on June 16, 2003. Prior to her appointment, she served in a number of senior positions within CMHC, including vice-president insurance and securitization, vice-president corporate services and chief financial officer. She has held the position of vice-president finance for a number of private sector real estate developers. Karen Kinsley holds a bachelor of commerce degree (honours) from the University of Ottawa and was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (FCA). She also received the Certified Director designation (ICD.D) from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Karen Kinsley was reappointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in March 2011. She was first appointed in June 2003.

Ms. Kinsley joined CMHC in 1987. She was appointed Vice-President, Finance in 1990 and Treasurer in June 1995. In November 1996, Ms. Kinsley became the Vice-President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, and in May 2000, was appointed Vice-President, Insurance and Securitization.

Prior to joining CMHC, Ms. Kinsley was Vice-President and Treasurer with two real estate development companies.

Ms. Kinsley received the Award of Excellence in 2004 from the Canadian Home Builders' Association in recognition of service to Canada's home building industry. In 2006, she was inducted into the Canadian Mortgage Hall of Fame by the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals in recognition of her service to the Canadian mortgage industry. In 2009, Ms. Kinsley was named 2009 CEO of the Year by the Ottawa Business Journal. She is also a three-time recipient of the Women's Executive Network™ Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award (2008, 2009 and most recently in 2010).
