Government of Canada: Canada Pavilion Coming to the Calgary Stampede

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 30, 2008) - The Canada Pavilion will be featured at the Calgary Stampede from July 3 to July 13, 2008.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to present the Canada Pavilion at the Calgary Stampede for the eighth year in a row" said the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada and Secretary of State (Agriculture). "The Pavilion, which provides an opportunity for Canadians to meet with government representatives, is an excellent way for Canadians to learn more about their government's priorities."

Various programs and activities will be featured at the Canada Pavilion, including activities surrounding this year's theme, the Great Canadian North. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about this territory which covers a large area of Canada, through educational displays such as an iceberg, a giant circumpolar map, and the creation of an Inukshuk. As well, visitors will be able to have their picture taken in a sea kayak.

In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with contraband detection equipment and the biometric-based traveler program "Nexus". They will also be able to explore Canada's architectural treasures on Parliament Hill and learn more about Canada's contribution to the Afghanistan mission, and much more.

Visitors can also meet the Canada Pavilion's mascot named Bravo, who will entertain the young and young at heart. Come and discover the federal programs and services available by visiting the Canada Pavilion at the Calgary Stampede.

In 2008-2009, the Canada Pavilion will be visiting 10 Canadian communities across Canada. As the flagship exhibit of the Government of Canada Exhibitions Program, the Pavilion has won a number of prizes since its creation in 2000, and provided information to more than six million visitors.
