Government of Canada Denounces Damage to Airdrie War Memorial

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 15, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement today on behalf of the Government of Canada in response to damage to the war memorial in Airdrie, Alberta.

"The Airdrie war memorial honours the men and women who have served this country when we needed them most. They sacrificed their lives so that we could live free-free from oppression, free from persecution, and free from fear.

The senseless damage done to this memorial not only dishonours the memory of these brave men and women, it inflicts pain and sadness onto the entire community. I join all Canadians in denouncing this act of disrespect."
