Government of Canada Denounces Vandalism at Welland-Crowland War Memorial

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 11, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement today on behalf of the Government of Canada in response to the graffiti recently spray-painted on the Welland-Crowland War Memorial in Welland, Ontario.

"It is deeply disappointing that anyone would deface a memorial honouring our nation's truest heroes," said Minister Thompson.

"The Welland-Crowland War Memorial commemorates the selfless efforts of so many courageous local men and women," added Minister Thompson. "We deplore any actions that denigrate their sacrifices and achievements, and we join all Canadians in denouncing this act of disrespect."
