Government of Canada Grants $150,000 in Funding for Promotion of Snowboard Jamboree

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 22, 2010) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister for La Francophonie and the minister responsible for the Quebec region, today announced the awarding of $150,000 in non-repayable funding through the Community Diversification program to the Coupe du Monde de surf des neiges Inc. for the international promotion of the 2010 and 2011 editions of the Snowboard Jamboree.

This assistance from Canada Economic Development will enable the organization to carry out a marketing campaign centred on the production of promotional materials for television, the placement of advertisements and the establishment of a media department to, among other things, serve visiting foreign journalists.

Minister Verner underscored the vital contribution the Snowboard Jamboree makes to tourism development in the greater Quebec region. "This major sporting event enhances the performance of the region's tourism industry. Indeed, the event's international reach and visibility help showcase the Stoneham Mountain Resort and City of Quebec as hubs of recreational tourism. It is thanks to events like the Snowboard Jamboree that the Quebec region as a whole enjoys a more prominent place on the world tourism map," she explained.

As part of its commitment to promoting tourism, the Government of Canada implemented an economic action plan last year that provides for the funding of marquee tourism events and the increased support of activities targeting priority markets. "Faithful to its word, our government has earmarked $140 million to stimulate the Canadian tourism sector and make it a veritable driving force of economic growth," she added.

On top of the LG /FIS World Cup and amateur competitions, the Snowboard Jamboree offers a diverse program of cultural activities and animation events taking place from January 20 to 24 at the Stoneham Mountain Resort and downtown Quebec.
