Government of Canada Grants $150,000 in Funding to Laiterie Chagnon Ltd

WATERLOO, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 12, 2011) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière–Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, today announced the awarding of $150,000 in repayable financial assistance to Laiterie Chagnon Ltd for the acquisition of equipment that will allow the firm to develop its export markets over the coming years.

"Laiterie Chagnon is stepping up its efforts to improve productivity. This project will result in the maintenance and creation of jobs, which will have a real impact on the Montérégie economy," explained Mr. Gourde. "That is why the Government of Canada is pleased to lend its financial support to this firm."

Before expanding into the export of its products to Canadian and U.S. markets, Laiterie Chagnon must bring its facilities into compliance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency requirements. To that end, the dairy producer will acquire new equipment that will enable it to modernize its production chain and launch into the manufacture of a new product. The company also intends to equip its plant with a solar energy system in order to achieve savings.

This contribution from the Government of Canada has been granted through Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program.
