Government of Canada Grants Funding to James Bay Joint Action Mining Committee


CHIBOUGAMAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 8, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the James Bay Joint Action Mining Committee has been granted financial assistance to support the implementation of its 2011-2014 action plan.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to once again lend its financial support to the James Bay Joint Action Mining Committee, an organization that, through its efforts to promote the growth of James Bay mining companies, is also helping to build the economy and employment in the region," explains Minister Lebel.

The mission of the James Bay Joint Action Mining Committee is to support the development of the James Bay mining industry with a view to promoting its sustainable development and to maximizing socioeconomic spinoffs for local populations. Through its leadership, activities and research and the quality of services provided by its applied research centre, the Centre d'étude appliquée du Quaternaire, the organization is contributing to the emergence of a competitiveness pole in the region. The financial assistance from the Government of Canada will enable the committee to pursue its mission.

This $200,000 in non-repayable funding has been granted through Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program.
