Government of Canada Grants Funding to Organization GIMXPORT

PERCÉ, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 24, 2012) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veteran Affairs, today announced on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, that the organization GÎMXPORT has been granted financial assistance from the Government of Canada to increase and strengthen the capacities of Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine service and manufacturing firms in developing new markets.

"The Government of Canada is firmly committed to supporting organizations that, like GÎMXPORT, help companies position themselves in international markets. The trade relations they establish there create jobs in Canada and stimulate the country's economic growth," said Minister Blaney.

GÎMXPORT will carry out a number of activities for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine firms, dealing with the internationalization of trade, including integration into value chains. Thanks to these services, businesses will be better equipped to meet the challenges of exporting and boost their international sales. GÎMXPORT's activities will help increase the number of exporting firms in the region.

Created in 1996, GÎMXPORT's mission is to work on the socioeconomic development of the Gaspé Peninsula and Magdalen Islands by promoting market diversification and increased regional product and service exports. It offers businesses looking to export a full range of services, from market studies through information sessions on various topics to personalized guidance, organizing missions outside Quebec and hosting foreign buyers.

Information:

This $462,000 in non-repayable funding has been granted under Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program. GÎMXPORT will use the funds for operating purposes and expenses related to certain one-time activities, over a 36-month period that began on April 1, 2012.
