Government of Canada Injects Over $4 Million in Rimouski Economy


RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 26, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced while on visit to Rimouski that the Government of Canada has granted funding to 12 organizations and businesses in the region.

"These financial contributions we are announcing today are yet another example of our government's strong commitment to maintain a firm focus on the economy, jobs and prosperity in Quebec's communities," said Minister Lebel.

The recipients of this funding are the firms Centre Techno-Pneu Inc. and Datran Inc. and the following 10 organizations: Les Amis des Jardins de Métis Inc., Corporation de soutien au développement technologique des PME, Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père, Club de soccer de Mont-Joli Inc., Centre de recherche sur les biotechnologies marines, Corporation des loisirs Sainte-Odile de Rimouski, Municipality of Esprit-Saint; Interdisciplinary Center for the Development of Ocean Mapping, Tour de la relève internationale de Rimouski, and Loisirs de La Trinité-des-Monts.

This assistance, granted in the form of repayable and non-repayable financial contributions totalling $4,069,386, has been awarded through the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) and the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

Promoter Description - Investment - Contribution
Les Amis des Jardins de Métis Inc. QEDP -Non-repayable contribution of $987,550 / total investment of $2,469,891
The project involves building and furnishing modern pavilions and a model eco-construction, carrying out landscape work that integrates access to the St. Lawrence and Métis rivers, reconfiguring the reception and parking areas and installing mobile terminals on the site to serve the interests of cellular telephone users.
Corporation de soutien au développement technologique des PME QEDP - Non-repayable contribution of $602,045 / total investment of $1,237,495
The aim of this project is to reinforce and improve the capabilities of manufacturing and service SMEs through various means, notably market development, implementation of trade internationalization activities, and development of adapted services. Consulting and guidance services will also be provided to help Bas-Saint-Laurent SMEs improve their innovation and commercialization capacity.
Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père QEDP - Non-repayable contribution of $408,250 / total investment of $2,985,225
This project involves commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1914 sinking of the Empress of Ireland, the largest marine disaster in Canadian history. The funding from CED will be used to create a theatrical production and thematic activities, acquire equipment, develop the site and commercialize the anniversary.
Club de soccer de Mont-Joli Inc. QEDP - CIIF - Non-repayable contribution $195,294 / total investment of $390,588
This project is aimed at improving two soccer fields in Mont-Joli by restoring the grass surfaces to allow for large-scale competitions, acquiring protective nets and lighting to permit evening use, and setting up service and storage areas.
Centre de recherche sur les biotechnologies marines QEDP - Non-repayable contribution of $484,814 / total investment of $606,017
The aim of this project is to promote innovation and technology transfer to enterprises through the acquisition of leading-edge equipment. This will enable the Centre to strengthen its applied research capabilities and expand its R&D services.
Corporation des loisirs Sainte-Odile de Rimouski QEDP - CIIF - Non-repayable contribution of $314,000 / total investment of $629,920
This project involves expanding the Sainte-Odile community centre to allow for the construction of a 260-person capacity hall that can be divided in two, enlarging the skaters' room, expanding the kitchen to meet the needs of community cooking groups, and building storage spaces for various organizations.
Municipality of Esprit-Saint QEDP - CIIF - Non-repayable contribution of $43,202 / total investment of $86,404
This project consists of carrying out indoor improvements on the Esprit-Saint recreation centre, including replacing the floor, renovating the kitchen, and making the restroom facilities wheelchair accessible.
Interdisciplinary Center for the Development of Ocean Mapping QEDP - Non-repayable contribution of $104,896 / total investment of $131,120
The aim of this project is to acquire leading-edge equipment that will enable the Center to strengthen its applied research capabilities and build the innovation capacity of enterprises through technology and knowledge transfer.
Le Tour de la relève internationale de Rimouski QEDP - Non-repayable contribution of $113,625 / total investment of $508,500
This project is aimed at supporting the Tour's commercialization strategy on markets outside Quebec for the years 2013 and 2014 in order to help bolster the number of foreign visitors and contribute to the sporting competition's development efforts.
Les Loisirs de La Trinité-des-Monts QEDP - CIIF - Non-repayable contribution of $16,310 / total investment of $32,619
This project involves renovating the La Trinité-des-Monts recreation centre, the main gathering place for the community. The work will include insulating and repairing the floors throughout the building and replacing the water and sewer pipes.
Centre Techno-Pneu Inc. QEDP - Repayable contribution of $199,400 / total investment of $1,062,000
This project is aimed at increasing the company's productivity and production capacity as well as improving the commercialization of its product line. The assistance from CED will serve to acquire and install technological equipment and tools, purchase new moulds, and cover expenses associated with the firm's expansion into the U.S. market.
Datran Inc. QEDP - Repayable contribution of $600,0000/total investment of $2,989,250
The aim of this project is to increase the enterprise's production capacity through a variety of means, including the expansion and reconfiguration of a building and the acquisition of painting and varnishing equipment, computer equipment and software, and a dipping unit for decor transfer.
