Government of Canada Invests $2,100,000 to Renovate the Algoma Conservatory of Music

The Government of Canada is investing $2.1 million to assist with renovations to two buildings at Mill Square. The funding will enhance the performance and music education areas of the Algoma Conservatory of Music's primary facility and provide technical upgrades to an adjacent building for use by the Conservatory and other presenters in the community.

Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament (Sault Ste. Marie), announced two contributions today. On behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, he announced $2 million in funding from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund. On behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor, he announced $100,000 from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

The sandstone building, which was built by entrepreneur Francis H. Clergue in 1901 and was home of the former St. Mary's Paper, is now a focal point in Sault Ste. Marie's arts community as the new home of the Algoma Conservatory of Music.
