Government of Canada Invests in Dunlop Art Gallery

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Jan. 6, 2011) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament (Palliser), today announced funding for the Dunlop Art Gallery.

This funding will assist the gallery in hosting "Haven of Delight," a travelling exhibit influenced by artist Ed Pien's experiences as a Taiwanese immigrant to Canada. The exhibition, which originates from the Musée d'art de Joliette in Quebec, will be open to the public from March 18 to May 26, 2011, and will be divided between the Central and Sherwood Village library branches. Public programming activities coinciding with the exhibition will include an artist talk, public workshops with the artist, storytelling sessions for children, school tours, and specialized programming for English-language learners.

"Our Government recognizes the importance of providing access to Canada's diverse cultural heritage," said Minister Moore. "In undertaking this project, the Dunlop Art Gallery will provide an opportunity to experience the splendour of Mr. Pien's visual arts first hand."

The Dunlop Art Gallery, located in the Regina Public Library, is dedicated to engaging visitors and researching and presenting a diverse range of visual artwork with a main focus on contemporary culture. The gallery enriches the artistic experience of its public through a variety of means, including exhibitions, programs, publishing, and collections.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $15,000 through the Museums Assistance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.
