Government of Canada Invests in the Kaleido Family Arts Festival

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2009) - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Peter Goldring, Member of Parliament (Edmonton East), today announced funding to support the Kaleido Family Arts Festival. This festival, which will take place from September 25 to 27, 2009, will feature professional local music, dance, writing, film, and crafts.

"The Kaleido Family Arts Festival provides the residents of Edmonton and the surrounding area with access to a variety of great cultural and artistic experiences," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to support this festival, which contributes to the community's vitality."

"Festivals such as this one bring people of all ages and backgrounds together and contribute to building strong communities," said Mr. Goldring. "I am proud that our Government encourages activities like this to strengthen our shared sense of heritage."

"We're delighted to see the federal government supporting the arts movement to see a positive change on Alberta Avenue," said Christy Morin, President of the Arts on the Ave Edmonton Society. "Kaleido Family Festival began four years ago and has seen exponential growth. This year's theme, 'Artists and Landscapes,' will help bring life back to Alberta Avenue with a rooftop choir, dancers, and other performances."

This funding is being delivered through the Arts on the Ave Edmonton Society, an incorporated non-profit organization. The Festival will be held on a five-block strip of Alberta Avenue.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $33,900 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program ( of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
